ACやMTの無人での自律運用を可能にするAI（人工知能）技術を研究開発する機関である。~
人類の地上進出後に現れた新興の組織であるが、独自開発したというAI技術は秀逸で、ミラージュ、クレスト・インダストリアル、キサラギの３社全ての企業に採用され、瞬く間にあらゆる兵器にAIが次々と組み込まれていった。~
しかし、物語の後半でミラージュが衛星砲にデータリンクを繋ぐと各地のAI兵器が一斉にコントロール不能に陥った。~
研究所が開発したというこのAIは「トロイの木馬」であり、運用する企業以外の外部からもコントロールできるようになっていたのだった。~
その外部とはサイレントラインのことであり、AI研究所も実はサイレントラインの向こう側にあるレイヤードの管理者“IBIS”が作り出した架空の組織だった。~
